The good reviews

Wideload has a collection of the more positive reviews on their website. I don't know how I missed a few of those, but it is encouraging to know that there are some reviewers that were able to "get" the game.

The Model is Broken

Gamasutra has an interview with alex about why they choose to outsource their work to around 20 different companies during their work on Hail to the Chimp. Wideload should be inspirational to aspiring game devs. It seems like the ideas they are trying can substantially cut costs and time, especially when you are just getting off the ground

Review

The BBPS has a review that I can only call fair. They gave the game a good chance and just didn't like it.

Demo

The Hail to the Chimp demo is up for Xbox 360 now, but it is unfortunately North America only. If you are on the fence about purchasing, go give it a try!

A few more reviews (sigh)

There are some more reviews out there, but nothing to jump up and down about. I will spare you the frustration by not linking to g4, who seem actively out to get the game, and make as big a fool of themselves as possible. Cheat Code Central has a slightly more fair review. I think one thing that people are misunderstanding is the differences in characters in the game. There are very different strategies depending on which character you play as.

Jokes (booze?) Games and Chimps

That videogame blog has an interview of Alex and Scott (the shorts dude) up. Some good bits in there as well as a view into the personal lives of the people we already know about through stalking.

Game with dev?

Game with dev has come and gone, and unfortunately I missed it. If anyone played, I would love to hear about it. Leave a comment!

Pretty good

Team Xbox's reveiw is up. It is a pretty fair review. I have the game now, and can say I agree with most of the points made. One thing I can really say is that the graphics in the game cannot be done justice in any way but HD. I suggest you go out and give it a go.

Game With Dev

Xbox.com has a game with dev event up and it is with no other than Wideload. They will be on this friday (the 11th) from 5-7 eastern, so go meet the people that make the games we love!

IGN slams Chimp

IGN's review is up, and a little less than bubbly. They complain about the AI, UI issues, and a general not funniness. Still no copies of Chimp within 100 miles of here, so I can't let you know what I think just yet.

Jerk Picks on Small Animals

Leigh Alexander of Variety had a go at Chimp, and unfortunately was not a fan. I still haven't played the games, so I can't say if I agree, but it would seem people are sort of pigeonholing Chimp into being a party game, which apparently always has mini games. Then they complain they didn't like the mini games because they are too big. Oh well, at least the reviewer didn't know the difference between a publisher and a developer, and so, blamed it on Gamecock.

Ok, one review

Narcogen pointed out that there is a Hail to the Chimp review at gamepro. Had I been keeping an eye on the sexy new Rampancy.net I would have already known. Also of interest Kotaku has HttC as in stores on the 1st, so perhaps I will see it then.

What is going on?

While Hail to the Chimp was released 5 days ago, it is still not in my hands. Gamestop and wal-mart still don't have the game. The other thing that is odd is that there have been absolutely no reviews since release. Is this game available anywhere?

Chimp review

Hail to the Chimp still isn't available in my city (cry), but there is a new review up from TWL favorite Matt Leone, over at 1up Its a pretty positive review overall, the biggest complaint was that it is a little light on gameplay. These reviews are getting me excited!

Big money

Wall Street Journal wrote an article yesterday called Can Videogames Be Funny?. It is about Wideload a bit, but also about the various places they contracted writers from. They drew their talent from some great sources this time around.

Getting close

As release date nears, reviews are starting to show up. Most so far are in magazines, but the one from ugo is online. So far reviews range from average to good. Start getting excited for tuesday!
